Take care of your perfume
This is how you take care of your perfume
So that you can fully enjoy your perfume and keep it for a long time, we have summarized the most important care tips here:
1. Store in the right place
One of the most important rules is to store perfumes in the right conditions. Perfumes do not like sunlight or high temperatures, because UV rays and heat accelerate chemical processes that can change their scent. It is best to store them in a cool, dry place, away from windows, radiators or bathrooms, where moisture can affect the durability of the scent. Cabinets or drawers that limit access to light will be ideal.
2. Avoid contact with air
Any contact of perfume with air accelerates the oxidation process, which can change the composition of the fragrance. Try to keep bottles tightly closed when not in use. Also, avoid pouring perfume into other containers, because you risk damaging its chemical structure. If the bottle is equipped with an atomizer, do not take it out unnecessarily.
3. Pay attention to the composition of perfume
Not all perfumes age the same way. Compositions with heavier notes like sandalwood, oud, or patchouli often gain depth over time if stored properly. Lighter citrus and floral scents, on the other hand, can lose their freshness more quickly. If you want a longer lasting scent, consider choosing a perfume with more durable ingredients.
4. Watch out for color and odor changes
Perfumes that start to change color, become cloudy, or their scent changes can be a sign that they are losing their original properties. While some changes are natural and do not necessarily mean that the perfume is spoiled, a noticeable sour or metallic aroma indicates a loss of quality. It is worth considering replacing it.
5. Use appropriately
Not only storage, but also the method of application affects the durability of the fragrance. It is best to spray perfume on the skin, especially on areas with good blood supply, such as the wrists, neck or the inner bends of the elbows. However, avoid rubbing the skin after application - this popular habit can destroy the structure of the fragrance, causing the perfume to evaporate faster. Also, make sure not to spray it on clothes, as some ingredients can leave permanent stains.
6. Shelf life of perfume
While perfumes technically don’t have an expiration date, their optimal lifespan is usually 3 to 5 years. After that, many fragrances can lose their intensity. If you want to extend the life of your collection, consider buying smaller bottles that you can use up before the scent starts to change.
7. Proper rotation of the collection
If you have a larger collection of perfumes, it is worth rotating them regularly so that each bottle has its "moment on stage". Open new perfumes only after you have used up the previous ones, which will allow you to enjoy their freshness for longer.
By taking care of your perfumes according to these rules, you will not only ensure the pleasure of using them for many years, but you will also be able to enjoy their full, unchanged character. Well-cared for perfumes are not only an expression of good taste, but also a way to preserve lasting, fragrant memories.
